Internet Marketing Online - Is it Needed?

The terms "internet marketing online" and "online marketing" refer to any type of marketing conducted via the internet. Online marketing can incorporate virtually any aspect of conventional marketing. For example, e-commerce sites conduct direct sales to consumers or businesses via the internet, while there are extensive and varied methods of advertising online. In short, any type of marketing carried out in the "real" world can also be done on the internet.Internet marketing online provides numerous advantages over traditional marketing.

The global nature of the internet means that online marketers can reach audiences larger and wider than previously thought possible. At the same time, the various forms of internet marketing are generally more affordable than their conventional equivalents; through e-mail marketing, for example, businesses can distribute their newsletters or catalogues at a cost greatly reduced compared to print, internet and website advertising, despite potentially having a much greater reach, are not subject to the exorbitant rates of some television advert slots.

Additionally, while print and television adverts provide no guarantee of return for the advertiser, it is possible to acquire online banner advertisements on a cost-per-lead basis, thus assuring that the advertiser receives a return on its marketing investment.Furthermore, internet marketing online offers many unique opportunities. marketing via online social media or social networking sites, such as MySpace or Facebook, allows businesses to connect directly with consumers, and for publicity to travel through the community links established on these sites.

Through search engine marketing, marketers can literally respond to the queries of the consumer; a bookseller, for example, can assure that his or her business is featured prominently when someone searches for "novels."Internet marketing online is also aided by simpler, more detailed data collection. The use of web analytics software can enable website operators to gain insight into who their viewers are, where they are, how and why they arrived at the site, and their level of interest. Internet marketers can even optimise advertising content based on the location or interests of website visitors.

Businesses may also consider affiliate marketing, a branch of internet marketing in which one website refers visitors to another. Many of the most prominent online retailers and e-commerce sites, including Amazon and eBay, make extensive use of affiliate marketing. The increasing prominence of the internet worldwide means that online marketing, already a force in the world of business, is set to become even more important. The inherent advantages of internet marketing online, particularly its efficiency of cost and use, make it worth considering for any business regardless of size.

5 Reasons You Should Own a Watch Case

Don't think that you have to be a serious collector or own a one of a kind timepiece in order to need a watch case. The truth is that all models from Gucci watches to Tag Heuer's should be stored in a case or cabinet and here's why:1. A case is designed to protect you valuable investment. A proper case or cabinet offers the ideal environment for your watch, keeping it free of dust, water, and other damaging elements.2. A special case will store your timepieces in a clean, dust free place. You might not realize how damaging tiny particles of dust can be, but they can and will cause problems with your watch's internal mechanisms.

3. Storing your timepieces in a case will keep them dry and away from the moisture in the air. Water is the number one enemy to the movement of a watch, and a case provides a barrier between moisture and your timepiece.4. A scratched crystal means that you cannot easily read the time and can be a costly replacement. Proper cabinets are lined and cushioned to alleviate the worry of scratches.5. Cases make traveling safer. Many cases are specially designed for travel and are fitted with locks. Others are even designed with display or see-through lids, for viewing.

If you have a precious timepiece, I hope you consider buying a case to keep it in. It just makes good sense to protect your investment and help it to last longer.

Movado Makes Chronographs?

Yes, the famous Museum watch maker also creates some incredible chronographs. They, along with many other manufacturers, produce some spectacular chronographic timepieces. As with any chronograph, there are some essential elements, which go into making these instruments. If you are in the market for one, you will want to familiarize yourself with some of the important terms and descriptions, before you set out, on your shopping trip. Here we go:1. Tachymeter; this is a special sale, which is printed on the outer side of a chronograph.

It is used to calculate an average speed traveled in a measured distance. This feature will be seen in chronographs, which are used in auto racing, to measure lap time.2. Telemeter; this printed scale is also located on the outside of the chronograph. It is used to determine the distance of an object from the wearer of the watch. This is accomplished by measuring just how long it takes a sound to travel the same distance.3. A 12 hour register; this is a subdial on a chronograph, which measures periods of time up to 12 or 24 hours.

4. A 30 minute register; a chronographic subdial, which times periods up to 30 minutes.A chronograph may be presented in either a classic pusher design or a symmetrical dial layout. The classic pusher offers push buttons on either side of the crown, which start, stop, and reset the timer. The symmetrical is the most popular design, because it is the most aesthetically pleasing and the easiest to read.

Germany Outdoors

Germany's countryside is a beautiful sight. Of all EU land, there are unique Castles, landscapes and great out of doors places to see in Germany. There are understandably places in the town that you have on your list, but take a little time and try out the places to see in Germany that are a little farther from the crowds. You'll get a breathtaking new look on your trip, and on the country's depth. The country takes care of these places in several Countrywide Parks with numerous landscapes and activity options.

Northern Germany is home to the Lower Saxony Wattenmeer State Park. This park includes coastland, mud flats and access to the East Frisian Islands. They're built with powerful systems to eat mussels and shellfish, and are particularly common in late summer months. There are 2 nearby museums: the German Maritime Museum, and Fisherman's House Museum. The biggest Countrywide Park in Europe is an example of the places to see in Germany, Schleswig-Holsetein Wattenmeer National Park. There are more mudflats here, the biggest of all the State Parks, really, and even reach to Holland's North Sea.

This is a cool spot to go to if you're looking for places to see in Germany that have wildlife. There are starfish, snails, mudworms and crabs in the water, and large flocks of birds particularly at nesting time. The nation's Park here sponsors tours discussing the wildlife, dykes, and sea patterns in the mudflats. There is also a whale exhibition and Nordstrand information center and aquarium.A absolutely different scene is at the Bavarian Forest. This is an area of 243 km of great forest land in South-East Germany.

There's a glacial lake, Lake Rachelsee, and keep your eyes out for Eagle Owl, Ural Owl, and Raven flying overhead. Other forest wildlife include otters and hazal grouse. The nature reserves are often geared towards outdoor activities for all ages: walking, cycling, water sports, and monuments. This nature reserve tops the places to see in Germany for hikers, and bicyclists, and especially those with an appreciation of history. This trail will take you thru forest views, then up and around valleys and hills to see small villages.

This area provoked Goethe in his famous writings. Take along a collection of his works and you may not wonder his inspiration for beauty. If you're looking for places to see in Germany that are off the crowded streets, take a little time visiting Countrywide Parks, nature reserves, and hiking trails across the country.

Tourism Advertising Could Be Deceptive

All you could have to do is go on sufficient travel blog sites or even on Yelp! and take a look at the travel horror stories to know that tourism advertising has become additional and a lot more deceptive. Consumers have to be quite watchful prior to purchasing travel packages from travel agents or on the net advertisements. Numerous times these "bargain" deals can leave you stuck inside a seedy, dirty hotel area inside a bad part of town in the foreign city.Which is what happened to me once when I went to New York City for a firm conference.

I bought a travel package that looked great on paper. The package advertised a incredibly low round trip airfare on the Huge Apple plus a lovely, "quaint" area in mid-town Manhattan. Beware in the words "quaint" and "cozy". These words actually just mean small and cramped. I was dropped off by the taxi that I picked up at JFK airport in front of a dumpy searching building with crackheads wandering by in front. Unruffled, I went in and was shown to my $135 per night area. For that amount of money, which I was told was a bargain in New York City, I still expected a fairly decent area.

Instead I was shown to a closet sized filthy area with no bathroom. The bathroom I was to share with every single other guest on that floor. This was totally unacceptable to me and I left to discover a much more high-priced area that was much better high quality even though I had already paid for the dumpy spot. I ended up paying way much more than I would have if I had just gotten the higher top quality, much more high-priced space from the very first location. So you've got to beware and realize that specifically inside the world of travel, tourism advertising may be very untruthful and you absolutely get what you pay for.

You see it all the time in tourism advertising: gorgeous white sand beaches, lovely cabanas by the beach, a fantastic swimming pool, big sunlit rooms, etc. What they do not show you're the panhandlers that make your life impossible whenever you try to relax at the beach, or the scores of drifters and vagrants that line the streets near your crappy hotel. That is the same hotel that appeared so inviting from the pictures they showed on the internet site. The web site showed happy upscale couples (lovely individuals only obviously) all having the time of their lives at the gorgeous resort.

The reality is usually starkly several. Several times, particularly when traveling towards the Caribbean, Central or South America, or Mexico you'll end up at a motel seeking location with broken air conditioners, leaky faucets, dirty linen, squeaky mattresses and bug infestations. The swimming pools at these areas can make you sick should you truly go in them. You could have to become incredibly mindful once you go out at night at some of these spots mainly because from the riff-raff and criminal element that hang around the sidewalks just outside your rooms.

Yes you have to be quite, incredibly watchful when it comes to believing tourism advertising. The very best method to avoid this really is to take a look at actual customer reviews on weblog internet sites like Yelp.com or the weblog pages of Travelocity or travelzoo.com. A beneficial review can save you from a ruined vacation.

Visiting Nagarkot During Your Nepal Trip

Nepal is renowned as a world class trekking destination, but if you're a non-trekker don't let this put you off. During your Nepal holiday, you can get wonderful Himalayan views without necessarily putting in the hard graft. If you're starting your Nepal trip in Kathmandu, you'll immediately find yourself surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Kathmandu is a city practically bursting with rooftop cafes, so grab a slice of cake and a cup of coffee, and head for the roof garden. Helena's Cafe in Thamel is famous for its rooftop views and a great way to while away a few hours during your Nepal holiday.

So, you do not necessarily have to trek for days at a time to find an incredible view complete with snowy peaks while you're on holiday in Nepal. Another brilliant option is Nagarkot, only a short drive from Kathmandu city - around 32 km and sits at an elevation of 2175m.People usually arrive on foot, by mountain bike, or by car from Kathmandu City or one of the nearby towns in the Kathmandu Valley region such as Bhaktapur or Dhulikel. It is possible to include Nagarkot as a one night trek stop on a 4 day Kathmandu valley trek.

One night is usually enough - ie. one sunrise and one sunset. The place itself does not pack a lot of charm, but some of the guesthouses are comfortable enough for one night and try and grab a room with a balcony. The views are really stunning and the best viewpoint is a full panorama from the lookout tower on the ridge about an hour's walk from the village near the Mahakali Temple. Most visitors catch the sunset over the valley and then rise early to catch sunrise, perhaps the most atmospheric moments to take in the breath-taking view and watch the sun colour the distant snow-capped peaks.

These will certainly become highlights of your Nepal travel experience. The mountains seem to float on the horizon from Kanchenjunga to the east and Dhaulagiri to the west. The best time to catch a clear view is in the cooler, drier months; from October to February. March, April and May can get a bit misty and hazy as the heat builds up towards June, when the monsoon rains usually begin to fall. When the monsoon clouds gather in Kathmandu valley (usually June to September) it will be quite unlikely to get unobstructed views and good visibility from Nagarkot.

So, this all means that you don't need to be put off from travelling in Nepal if you're not up to trekking or it's just not your thing. There are all kinds of ways to enjoy a Nepal holiday, and Nagarkot is a particularly good option for those iconic Himalayan views.

Trekking In Northern Thailand

Fitness Levels For Trekking In ThailandFor short hikes of one to two days in Thailand, a reasonable level of physical fitness is required. This means that they are suitable for almost anyone. For hikes longer than two days, an adventurous nature and good physical fitness is needed. During your Thailand trek, you'll be walking through the wilderness with a rucksack (meaning there will be lots of sweating and in the rainy season, or if you are unlucky enough to catch a cloudburst, getting wet). The sanitary facilities during this part of your Thailand trip will be primitive to say the least - on the hike, behind the 'bushes' or in this case bamboo trees - and the primitive overnight accommodation while visiting the mountain people (on a wooden floor with a sleeping mat) are not everyone's cup of tea!

It may not be the most comfortable experience of your life, but it will definitely help to make your Thailand trip something to really remember.Evenings In The Thai Mountain VillagesApart from the daily physical demands of your activities, an essential part of trekking in Thailand is being a part of the village atmosphere in the morning and evening. In the evening, you can relax and take in village life from beside an open fire, a real highlight of any Thailand trip. Your guide will prepare your evening meal made from locally produced ingredients.

You might even be able to have a chat with the locals using your guide as an interpreter. Your guide not only knows the region like the back of his hand, he also knows the local languages of the different mountain peoples and can tell you all about their culture. While you're trekking in Northern Thailand, you'll sleep in a wooden hut on the outskirts of the village. There will be no electricity or running water, and your bed will be made up of a plastic mat on a bamboo floor raised off the ground by stilts.

This is Thailand travel at its most basic and most brilliant.What to take with you on your Thailand trek?A few items are important to have with you (besides adventurer's blood) while you're travelling in Thailand;

Climate in Tibet

Tibet is a fascinating and remote country to visit, perched high in the Himalayas. If you're planning on taking a Tibet tour, you'll need some climate information, as this will be an essential part of your decision making process.Himalayan foothillsThe mountains and valleys off the Himalayan foothills have a moderate climate. Warm summers make way for cold winters. The average temperature in this area varies between approximately 5 degrees Celsius in January to about 25 degrees Celsius in July. During the winter nights can get very cold and the temperature usually drops to below freezing.

The average daytime temperature in Lhasa from April through September is about 25 degrees, so an ideal time to take a Lhasa tour. The average night-time temperature in the summer is about 10 degrees Celsius. In the Summer you shouldn't need much more than 1 warm jumper to keep you cosy as most of the time the weather will be pretty hot!The Himalaya RangeThe mountain area in the Himalayas above 4000m is known for having a highland climate. Temperatures are consistently below freezing and the landscape is covered with snow and ice.

Most travellers take a jeep Everest Base Camp, so you shouldn't have to worry about this too much.Best time to travelThe best time to travel is from April through October. These months are relatively dry and have the clearest skies. The summer months are generally very warm and the sun shines brightly, so suntan lotion is a must. From time to time a small rain shower may pass over, but these are doable in Tibet.Tibetan winters are sunny and dry, but also extremely cold. That's why we don't recommend travelling to Tibet during the mid-winter months.

Chances are that the roads will be covered with snow and there's also a significant chance that mountain passes will be shut down.

My Thailand Scooter Experience

Seeing Thailand on two wheels for me has to be one of the most exciting things to do with your clothes on! It's great when you get off the tourist trail, head into the countryside away from the hustle and bustle of the city and pass through small villages or deserted beaches. Here are some handy tips and hints for hiring a scooter and how to avoid some pitfalls.Scooters can be hired all over Thailand every man and his dog will have one to rent. Most tourist places especially in the big cities and around beach locations will have shops where you can hire; your hotel might even be able to rent them to you.

For a 125 cc scooter such as the ubiquitous Honda Wave you can expect to pay anywhere from 150 baht to 300 for a 24 hour hire. For a week you will be looking at 1000 baht and around 3000 for a month. You will probably find a 50cc scooter not powerful enough if you are going anywhere where there are hills. A tank of fuel will cost you somewhere in the region of 90-120 baht. It's worth speaking to your hotel first even if they don't rent as they can give you great advise on reputable shops they normally send their customers to, what the going rate to rent is and how much petrol costs in the area.

So you are in the shop about to hire, what can you expect? You may have to show a licence, but if you don't have one a bit of sweet talk will get you by, they really aren't that strict, you will see pre pubescent kids riding scooters in Thailand all the time! Be honest with yourself though if you have never ridden a scooter as its yours and other people's lives you might be messing with. You will probably be asked to leave your passport as a deposit, this is the norm and some people are reluctant to do this.

You might be able to get away with them taking a photocopy if you tell them you need your passport to cash traveller's cheques. Alternatively you may be able to leave a cash deposit of say 2000 baht. You will most likely be asked to pay for the hire time when you return the scooter, so you could hold onto it for a couple of extra days if you wanted without having to pay a fee for returning it late. You will probably have to leave details of the address you are staying at too. Make sure you check over the scooter you are being offered, point out any damage and take photos of any damage in front of the owner (you don't want to be paying for someone else's damage when you return the bike).

If bits are hanging off ask for another one. Ask the shop owner for the phone number of the shop in case you break down, so they can come out and help you. It's unlikely you will be able to take insurance out with the shop, or it won't be worth the paper it's written on, so it's worth looking at your travel insurance to see if you are covered to rent scooters and if so up to what cc. Should the worse happen and you are involved in an accident it's likely that you will pay any damage that needs fixing to the scooter to the shop owner or risk not seeing your passport again.

If a third party is involved you may end up paying out damages there and then, cost wise this would be a fraction compared to the UK. It's unlikely it will ever get to court though unless you decided to peruse it with your travel insurance company if you are covered. Before you get on, make sure you get a quick lesson from the owner and ask about any quirks of the model. Some scooters use a clutch whilst others are just twist and go. Find out the range of the tank as well and if there is a reserve tank light when does it come on?

How many miles can you get from the reserve tank? I would also insist with the shop on hiring a helmet, which will most likely be the open face type. Wearing trainers is also a good idea; it's far too easy to stub a toe in flip flops! It's worth watching the locals on the road before you start riding. See what they do at junctions, how they overtake, does the colour of traffic lights mean anything to them?! In busy areas the horn will undoubtedly be used frequently. It's also likely they won't be following the letter of the law like we do in the UK.

They do however drive on the left like the UK.If it is your first time on a scooter make sure you are in the right frame of mind. If your friends are doing it, you may feel pressurised, just go at your own pace it's not a race. Get them to wait for you now and then. It might sound obvious, but don't ever drink and ride, this happens far too much with tourists in Asia. Most are lucky and get away with a few scrapes, but it's just not worth the risk to you or others on the road.If you are going to carry a pillion (passenger) make sure you instruct them on what to do.

So you get on the scooter first, then when settled, your pillion will hop on, remind them to look out for the exhaust, it may be hot. Get them to hold on to the grab rail if the scooter has one, if not they may need to put their arms around your waist, tell them not to give you a bear hug though! If your pillion is inexperienced give them a signal for you to slow down if they get worried, maybe tapping their knees against your thighs. Also tell them not to move around too much when you are moving as this will upset the movement of the scooter.

When it's time to stop, they get off first.Things to look out for whilst on the road would be potholes, man hole covers, grates and even the odd dog in the middle of the road basking in the sun! Allot of the roads on the small islands aren't paved so just take it easy until you can feel how the scooter reacts to the loose surface, if you do find the scooter loosing traction, try to go with the flow to let the scooter stabilise itself and keep your hands loose on the bars, a death grip on the bars and sudden movements will destabilise the scooter even more.

Also remember that where you are looking is where the scooter will go, so detach your eyes from that pothole and look to the side of it and in front of it. Looking far ahead also gives you more time to react to unexpected things and you don't get that 'ground rush' sensation that will make you feel less confident. If you are going out for a whole day, make sure you fill up before you head out, get a map, be realistic as to how far you can go and find out where you can fill up on your way. It's also worth wearing sunglasses as a bee hitting your eye when you are doing 30mph is going to hurt!

Carry a day sack too; a bottle of water, some sun cream, map and money can all go in it.It may sound a bit scary to hire a scooter in Thailand, but with a bit of common sense, and hopefully taking on some of the tips I have given, you will have a great laugh, with many a tale to tell when you get home!

Cooking The Thai Way

If you have talked to anyone who has travelled to Thailand, their stories of dodging tuk tuks flying down Khao San road and the stunning golden temples will be in all their pictures, but when the subject turns to the food there are no picture that can portray the taste of a Pad Thai from a noodle bar on Khao San Road! The local food is definitely a highlight of any Thailand trip.If you have been outside in the last 5 years then you will have seen the how the traditional English curry is slowly being ebbed into the background and replaced by a wave of Thai delicacies.

Living in Brighton it is hard to move without going into a Thai Restaurants, pub or Thai take-away and even with this huge choice everyone is packed to the rafters with happy diners. Human nature dictates that we naturally explore the world and when we find something we like we bring back. From India we brought the Tikka Masala, from China the Dim Sum and now, from our Thailand experiences, the Thai Green Curry! With our love of this eastern food it is no wonder that the Thai people have created a fantastic way of giving us a skill we can have forever and so if you go on a Thailand trip be sure to take a cooking course as it will give you more than just a new dish to impress you friends with.

In 2001 I travelled to Chiang Mai as part of my Thailand trip, where there was an impressive array of cooking courses. With luck on my side I blindly chose the smiling face of a man named Lop who took me under his wing for the rest of the day. His cooking school included a half day with a small group of international tourists and our Thai guide. We spent the morning following our guide through the local market where we were given the rundown of Thai etiquette and detailed explanations of what to look for when choosing you ingredients.

He gave us tips on how to tell if these weird and wonderful looking vegetable where ripe, and how to pick the one with the most flavour. We chatted to the local sellers, (with a little help from our guide), and felt very accepted in an alien environment. It is one of the most memorable days of my entire Thailand trip. With our bags full of lemon grass, eggplant, chillies and other local vegetables I had never seen before, we headed to the cooking school. Driving down a dirt road on the out skirts of Chiang Mai we came to a Thai style wood hut surrounded by paddy fields which was our setting for the afternoon.

Throughout the afternoon we cooked a number of different dishes from Pad Thai, green curry to a beautiful sticky rice and mango dessert. After each dish we would stop to sit round a communal rickety wooden table to taste our triumphs and compare notes - a true Thailand travel experience. Some of our dishes where a little more successful than the others, but all with a fantastic aroma and delicious taste! At the end of our lesson we went away with full bellies, a recipe book of all our dishes and a sense of satisfaction that we could replicate a little piece of our Thailand trip when we got home, and impress some of our friends too.

I still cook some of the dishes from the book now almost 10 years later and if you travel to Thailand be sure to take half a day out for this truly fun and memorable Thailand experience!

Top Ten Things To Do In Kathmandu

The main draw to Kathmandu has to be the incredible culture and artistic heritage - a highlight of any trip to Nepal. The importance placed on religion in Nepal is huge and a tour of the three main sights; Swayambunath, Boudhanath and Pashupatinath are not to be missed! Swayambunath is the oldest Buddhist temple in the Kathmandu Valley. At the foot of the long stairway out of the valley are several temple buildings covered with colourful drawings and surrounded by brightly coloured statues. There are lots and lots of curious monkeys around scavenging for a bite to eat.

There are 365 stone steps to climb to reach the stupa, where prayer flags flutter in the wind and the eyes of the Buddha are the focal point. The atmosphere around the stupa is incredible and filled with an air of energy and excitement.Boudhanath, a Tibetan Buddhist monument with a diameter of 100m, is one of the largest stupas in the world and another highlight of travelling in Nepal. The monument is surrounded by a neighbourhood of Tibetan refugees called 'Little Tibet'. The many souvenir shops and restaurants make this the ideal place to have lunch with a view of the grand stupa.

At Pashupatinath Hindus come to honour Shiva in the shape of Pashupati an Animal God. Non-Hindus are not allowed to enter the temple complex, however if you cross the Bagmati River and take a seat on the stairs you'll have a great view of the ghats, the ritual bathing and cremation locations. If you're lucky you may see preparations for a cremation ceremony while you're travelling in Nepal. There are many sadhus, or holy men, at Pashupatinath. Sadhus are nomadic Hindus who have rejected the cast system and do not follow normal traditions.

They generally dress quite extravagantly; they wear orange robes or some are naked having smeared themselves with left over ashes from cremations.Shopping in Thamel is hectic and entertaining. Thamel really is a backpacker's haven and there is everything from Indian textiles, T shirts and DVDs to trekking gear, Nepali artefacts and jewellery for sale. It's a good place to meet other travellers in Nepal and there are plenty of places to grab a tasty bite to eat. Due to the nature of the area there are more international restaurants than Nepali and you can find anything from Italian to Thai, Indian to German bakery good to tempt you.

It's certainly a good place to replace the calories you may have burnt during your Nepal trek!If you choose to stay a little further out from the main tourist hub, I would certainly recommend a visit to one of Thamel's many rooftop garden restaurants during your trip to Nepal. Most afford a view over the rooftops of the city and in such a hectic and densely populated area, it's a lovely break to enjoy the peaceful green surroundings and sit back with a good book and a hot chocolate as you think over your Nepal trip.

Along with Dal Baht, momos are one of the most popular dishes in Nepal and make a cheap and delicious treat! They can be found everywhere from roadside carts where they are cooked while you wait to the Tibetan guesthouses of Thamel and beyond. No trip to Nepal is complete without a munch on some momos! When you tire of Thamel, head out to the incredible medieval towns of Patan and Bhaktapur while you're travelling in Nepal. Bhaktapur is completely traffic free so it makes for the perfect getaway from the busy roads and pollution of Kathmandu.

The town is timeless and quiet and the cobblestone streets link monumental squares and temples with shrines and communal wells - a real highlight of a trip to Nepal. Potters' Square is lined with clay stores and potters' wheels, and there is a fantastic view over the river to the hills south of Bhaktapur. Patan has a more interesting Durbar Square than Bhaktapur with a far greater concentration of architecture than Kathmandu. The Durbar Squares of Nepal can't be beaten for architecture and the atmosphere in Kathmandu's Durbar Square is fantastic.

The main temple of Kasthamandap is according to legend, built from the trunk of only one tree. There are many historic buildings located on this square, such as temples and the ancient royal palace Hanuman Dhoka. You'll also find the intricately carved wooden house of Kumari, the living Goddess. When you've explore the various buildings there are plenty of places to sit back with a drink and soak up the atmosphere. When you've explored the centre of Kathmandu and the pace of the city is too much, a really great way to get some fresh air and see a different side to Nepal is by taking a trek across the Kathmandu Valley to Nagarkot and Dhulikhel.

This is a particularly good option for travellers to Nepal who don't have the time to head out to Pokhara and the famous Annapurna trekking route. You'll trek past rice and vegetable fields, through small rural farming villages, where children will run out to greet you. As you slowly start to climb, you'll reach Nagarkot and the Newari town of Dhulikhel which both offer stunning, if distant, views of the Himalayas at certain times of the year. It's a great option for any Nepal trip [out].Finally, the perfect way to end any trip to Nepal, whether you've pushed yourself to the limit in the Annapurnas or pottered around the streets of Kathmandu, is dinner at Dwarika's Hotel.

Whether you opt for a 6 course traditional meal in the beautiful restaurant or the candlelit Friday night poolside barbecue, you won't be disappointed!

A Handy Travel Guide to Three Berlin Airlines

Standing out for its unusual architectural design, Berlin Tegel airport was constructed in the shape of a hexagon surrounding a square. The architects who designed Berlin Tegel airport did so with practicality at the forefront of the minds, and despite this being a huge international airport there is only a 30 meter walk from the terminal to the aircraft and vice versa. This is a good thing as around 14 and a half million passengers used Berlin international airport in 2008, making it one of Germany's busiest transport hubs.

This passenger traffic has more than doubled since 1993 when 7 million passengers used Berlin Tegel international airport. However, that will not stop it being closed in 2012 to make way for the new and improved facility - Berlin Brandenburg international airport. Currently TUI fly, Air Berlin and Lufthansa are the three major airlines which use Berlin Tegel international airport. All of these airlines offer a special evening early check in service which is a great time saver.Air Berlin flies to Alicante, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Malaga, Paris Orly, Rhodes and many other world wide and domestic destinations.

A few of the popular Lufthansa routes are to Dusseldorf, Moscow and Munich while TUI fly regularly goes to Cairo, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, Tel Aviv and Venice Marco Polo among others. It was only following the tearing down of the Berlin Wall in 1990 that Lufthansa resumed flights from Berlin Tegel international airport, recommencing their routes on the 28th of October.Air France was actually the first airline to have flights from Berlin Tegel international airport and it still does regular routes to Paris Charles De Gaulle airport.

This is because France was among the victorious allies which took control of West Germany. The American airline Pan Am was the second airline to start flying from Berlin Tegel international airport.During the 1970's and 80's there was also a British airline called Dan Air which actually set up charter flights between Berlin Tegel international airport and Amsterdam Schiphol airport in Holland, as well as London Gatwick airport in England. Other well travelled routes are from Berlin to Athens airport with Aegean Airlines, London Heathrow airport with British Airways and John F Kennedy New York airport with Delta Air Lines.

Berlin has five main terminals, terminal A, terminal B, terminal C, terminal D and terminal E. Terminal A has 14 bridges, Terminal B is known as Nebel Hall and terminal C only recently opened in May 2007. Terminal C is used almost exclusively by the national German carrier Air Berlin. Terminal D was converted from being a car park in 2001 to make even more room at the airport and there are 22 check in desks there, while there are only three international check in desks at terminal E.

Fun Travels in Australia and New Zealand, Part Three

When I left readers in Part Two of this odyssey around New Zealand and Australia, I was talking about the zealous fruit police and canines in Zed. The best way to see both countries is by a combination of ship and bus tour. The cruise that we took can be replicated by similar cruises on Holland America, Royal Caribbean, and Princess. As we left Zed's Picton headed across the Tasman Sea, we gathered our thoughts about New Zealand. Much of the country is pastoral, orderly, and quite pleasing to the eye.

Traveling around by bus, you see tidy houses, huge herds of sheep and cattle, timber farms, very well utilized land, kiwi plots, wineries, graceful coves, brilliant flowers, fruit stands with the most glorious, juicy, crispy, and crunchy apples and pears-everywhere a prosperous looking, lush and lavish countryside and a sturdy yeomanry. Or perhaps to be politically correct we should say yeofolks or yeoguys.Even the dogs seem unusually happy and friendly. One big, lovable honey-colored golden retriever insisted on clambering aboard the bus with us, and I think he would be in the States with me now, by my side, if his mistress hadn't dragged him away.

An American urban pit bull would become seriously dysfunctional and neurotic in Zed as would his master.Oddities showed up: we saw deer and ostrich farming. The people were very wary of betting the family farm on sheep alone. Prices for lamb meat and wool products have had a tendency to dip precariously and often. One sees horses wearing blankets in the blazing sun to protect them from the powerful rays of the sun which get through the very thin ozone layer in that part of the world. Small children wear desert type hats which have long hoods on the sides and the back to protect them from the murderous sun.

The people seemed to be drifting away from their British customs and traditions, forging their own identity distinct from Britain's or America's, sort of a neo-Asian blend of various strands including Polynesian, and an Anglo-Saxon Orientalism. The people were far more aware of Asian trends and economic realities than the American tourists were. They were more attuned to the economic headlines coming out of Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Beijing than they were of financial news of New York and London. One night at a bar on the ship crossing the Tasman Sea, I was talking to a retired Aussie naval officer from Darwin on the northern tip of Australia.

He expressed very genuine fears about mainland China's long-term expansionary ambitions and said there was a real fear in Australia among many about China as a military threat as well as an economic one.I was ready to dismiss his misgivings as the result of the scotch he was imbibing until a retired officer from the Kiwi forces seconded his opinions and said that there was also a faction in New Zealand that saw China's one billion and growing population as a bona fide threat. Incidentally both countries have tightened their immigration policies considerably.

Even though both could sustain larger populations, they have no intention of doing so.Both New Zealanders and Aussies go completely mad over rugby, cricket, and soccer-football and love to gamble. The electronic poker machines you see in all the pubs are called pokies. Our ship took off from Picton in New Zealand for Tasmania, the island off the southeastern tip of Australia. The three days on the Tasman Sea exposed us to very rough swells with much pitching and heaving, rocking and rolling, tossing and turning and considerable barfing by most of the passengers and a goodly number of the crew.

It was to have been a placid, restful interlude in a busy schedule of sightseeing, but it turned out to be for many, the voyage from hell and back.Tasmania is the land of the Tasmanian devil, a vicious little rodent that eats carrion. The agricultural riches seen in New Zealand were again in evidence on the island. Rich farmland produces apples, potatoes and grapes. A man from upstate New York said Tasmania and New Zealand were just like where he came from, the land of appleknockers, hicks, and hayseeds.

Our first stop in Tasmania was the city of Hobart where we stayed overnight. The city has a very attractive waterfront area lined with sidewalk cafes and restaurants, and a big Antarctic exhibit building. It has a pedestrian street in the shopping area, and late in afternoon it's loaded with school kids just like the malls in the States. The countryside outside of town is comely and bus visits in and outside of town are well worthwhile. We departed from Hobart at 5:00 a.m. and arrived in Port Arthur at noon for a five hour visit.

We took a tender ashore. Port Arthur is a great historical site but also a disturbing place to visit because of its melancholy past.In the 1780's England started transporting its criminal element to Australia. Port Arthur started as a timber station in 1830 and during the 1830's it began serving as a penal colony, often for Australia's harder cases. It was closed down as a prison in 1877 and over time became a tourist attraction. It sits in beautiful bay; it's a very attractive, sylvan place with green fields.

On the slopes around the bay are the old brick buildings, some restored and some merely ruins. You see the old prison cell blocks, the chapel, a house for a lone political prisoner, little cottages for officials, the governor's house, and a number of other buildings which serviced the community. It resembles a college campus that no longer is in use-a beauty of a place, but a beauty with an edge to it, because over ten thousand inmates had been confined there over the years. Tranquil, well kept up with lawns cut, bushes trimmed, it's a delight to the eye.

There's an exhibit building that depicts life in the penal colony. One small cellblock was for the worst offenders, where they were subjected to psychological punishment in a dehumanizing, demeaning atmosphere. In the so-called "Separate Prison" prisoners wore hoods and their keepers wore horrific masks at times and an order of silence was imposed. Some of the horrific masks can be seen in the museum on the grounds. On April 28, 1996, in this of all places, a deranged man went on a killing rampage in the town and in the surrounding area; he ended up murdering thirty-five people.

It's almost a fitting place for a mad gunman to choose for a modern desecration, a former hard-time prison, because no matter what the present beauty of the place, it has a haunted feeling of the ghosts of prisoners. None ever escaped from the prison and lived; bodies would be found later in the woods. The forlorn boys' prison and graveyard sits accusingly on a little island out in the harbor. After the visit most tourists feel more somber and reflective because through the guides and museum and the "Port Arthur Experience" they come to realize how tragic were the lives of the inmates.

It is difficult to imagine such a peaceful and relaxing place having such a sad past. You will find an outstanding website for the site at portarthur.org.Our last stop in Tasmania was Devonport on the island's north coast. It has interesting tourist attractions including a narrow gauge railroad, a maritime museum, and an aborigine center. Ferries take off from here for Melbourne, Australia, though we stayed aboard our cruise ship for the trip to one of the Down Under's largest cities.Next stop: Melbourne

Traveling To Benidorm From The Alicante Airport

The Alicante International Airport is the main airport used for those traveling to the Alicante and Murcia areas. It is located in Elche, approximately five to six miles southwest of the city of Alicante, Spain. It is also a widely used airport by travelers visiting the Costa Blanca area and the number of flyers is continually increasing. Nearly nine million travelers fly into Alicante annually with eighty percent as international travel. Many of the flights are from the United Kingdom, Germany and Holland but this area is particularly a popular tourist destination for British travelers.

The airport has come a long way since its inception in 1967. To meet the demand of its travelers, construction of its new terminal is projected to be completed in 2009. Upon arrival at the airport, you will need to determine the best transportation method for you depending on where you are staying, how long you are staying and how much you anticipate traveling during your stay. You can choose the bus or a taxi, but you will not find a train since there is currently no train connecting at the Alicante airport.

The bus, however, can take you to several destinations throughout Alicante and is reasonably priced. Buses operate from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and run every forty-five minutes, with each ride lasting around forty minutes. Fortunately, the buses are air conditioned which will be appreciated during the hot summer weather. Many drivers do not speak English at all, but you will find that they are friendly and eager to help you get where you need to go. Beyond Alicante, you can take the bus to northern Costa Blanca towns such as Benidorm which is approximately twenty-eight miles northeast of Alicante.

From the airport, a bus ride to Benidorm takes about an hour and fifteen minutes and is more expensive because of the longer distance. This bus to Benidorm generally runs from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with each trip leaving every hour. You can also find bus routes available to Torrevieja, Denia and Murcia. If you do not want to wait for a bus or prefer a car, there are taxis available. Some of the drivers also speak English, but all are very helpful. Obviously, the fare depends on how far your destination is, but another option is to have the taxi take you to the train station in Alicante.

Though the train ride takes longer than other methods of transportation, it is a beautiful ride and a great opportunity to see the beautiful surroundings of Spain's Costa Blanca region.

From Windmills To Diamonds: Travel Holland

Tulips, windmills and wooden shoes might still be a draw to this Dutch region for some travelers; however, Holland is a far more versatile locale with an international and maritime history extending farther back than most of the rest of Europe, including the establishment of New Amsterdam as a major trading city, which became New York when the British took over. Holland, particularly Amsterdam, is also well known for its diamond manufacturing and polishing industry. If that tickles your fancy, make sure to visit the Amsterdam Diamond Center located in the center of the city.

Before you continue with this informative guide to Holland, make note that although the name "Holland" is used commonly in everyday language, the country is strictly called The Netherlands and internationally recognized as such.Red Lights and RembrandtBesides being the capital city, Amsterdam has enough to offer to fill your entire vacation. The unavoidable multiculturalism has brought Amsterdam to the forefront of controversial equality and human rights issues. Muslims, Jews, Dutch and Surinamese all have a very active role in the life and politics of the city.

The Anne Frank House is an extremely popular sight with a new exhibit at the end that discusses the modern day conflict between freedom of speech and respect for cultural and religious diversity. Amsterdam is also home to the Van Gogh Museum and the newly restored Rembrandt Museum. The Dutch acquired an extensive collection of colonies during the 18th and 19th centuries, one of which was Suriname, located on the northern coast of South America. Suriname finally gained its independence in 1975 and through an education exchange program the Surinamese population remains predominant in Amsterdam.

The cultural flair adds richness to the city in the form of contemporary music, art and exquisite cuisine. Make sure to dine in a Surinamese restaurant at least once!Amsterdam is also notorious for its Red Light District and Coffee Shops. Stroll through the winding streets at night for an incredibly diverse experience and stop at one of the bustling pubs for delicious locally brewed beer. Also, many visitors enjoy seeing the city from the water. There are boat tours offered on an hourly schedule during the summer months that take you through the picturesque canals and past charming old fa็ades.

Timeless and TraditionalEven though Amsterdam is a modern hub in the globalized world, there is still an incredible amount of tradition and history prevalent throughout The Netherlands. Visit the nearby town of Alkmaar in the summer to take part in the centuries-old cheese market and festival. Locals don traditional dress and haul giant rounds of cheese through the town square for weighing. After your fill of diary, wander through this seaside town's canals and shops. Travel through central Holland to the medieval town of Utrecht, established around 47 AD.

The 14th century wharves, cathedrals and Roman architecture are sure to transport any traveler to another place in time. For international travelers, Holland exists in a class of its own. Whether you enjoy the bustling urban experience or the intimate countryside adventure, you will find what you are looking for in Holland. For more information on travel to Holland and other regions in Europe, and discount airfare to Holland, visit www.cfares.com.

Choosing Where to Go On Vacation : India Travel Tourism

Choosing where to go on holidays is becoming more and more difficult task as so many options are available now. Where ten years ago people were limited by price and what their local travel agent had to give, today due to the influence of the Internet and cheap flights everything has changed for the better. Today selecting where to go can be so complex because there are so many alternatives available, so many resources to verify, and so many bargains it is difficult to know a person is getting the best deal.

Budget Before a person decides where to go on vacation it is vital that he sets a budget for himself. This will make sure that he does not become too attached to a place he does not have enough money to go. A person keeps in mind that although group holidays can be great fun, not everyone is in the same monetary situation or has the same affinity. When finalizing a budget it is essential that one keeps in mind that there are other costs besides what he pays for your hotel room; spending money, food, flights and insurance are all costs he will have to meet with as well.

What do you want from your holiday? If a person wants to go on vacation to get a sun tan then Norway is certainly not the best location for him. Similarly if one is looking for a ski trip then a trip to Holland could be a fritter away of time. That is why it is vital to set some basic vacation objectives, and then one can consider what choices will suit him the best. The best way to find the location that is best suited for a person is by searching online. There are also great online resources for making out what the weather is expected to be in a particular place at a certain time of year.

One should not forget that unexpected weather does happen, and one should not let it spoil the vacation. Finding a great deal With so many alternatives, one can never be sure that he is getting a good deal? One way to find a good deal is by surfing the web. On the Internet one can often find websites that are exclusively tailored to finding holiday deals. Another way to ensure that a person is minimizing costs is by ordering online or by dealing with the hotel directly. This can remove unwanted costs.

Travel Tips For European Vacations For Senior Citizens

Wherever you might be going, there are some constant features you should think about because they would help you to have a good time and solve unwanted burdens. These features concern your luggage, accommodation, electronic devices, season, and seniors' discounts.Prefer a backpack on wheels instead of a suitcase, you could pull it behind you when your back hurts or you are exhausted. Don't overweight your luggage. It is enough to take two or three blouses or shirts (depending on the season), two pairs of lightweight trousers, comfortable walking shoes, three changes of underwear, three pairs of socks (long stockings when the weather is cold on that time of the year) and these all should be enough for your luggage.

Consider checking your bag in with the airlines, because it would become an unnecessary burden to be dragged all over the airport or the city if you are going to have a short visit. In case you will go to visit those places, ask the airline attendant to arrange transport to make sure you will be in time for your flight. The accommodation could create other problems, the stairs, for example. You should take them into account when you make the arrangements in advance. You could tell from the very beginning that you would prefer a ground floor room.

You could stay outside the city, in a hostel maybe, because it is cheaper, less crowded and the air is much fresher, but you have to walk or use the transport more, to get in the city or to the station. However you put the problem here, there are always advantages and disadvantages in your balance. You have to ask yourself what weights more in the balance. The season you are travelling in must agree with your mood. In late spring and early autumn Europe is less full of tourists, neither too hot, nor too cold.

You could have an Easter European travel in Holland, for instance, to see the tulips in full bloom on the fields or you can visit the Keukenhoff Gardens to see the rainbow of blooming. Most museums, some concert halls, railways, airlines, bus lines, ferry and shipping lines have a discount policy for seniors. You should ask them wherever you go, and you will find out that you can save some money. In UK the discount, called concession is not just a concession, it is quite generous. Actually there are even a few places, quite rare, but they exist and you can have a free access to what they offer.

Electronic devices are useful but sometimes they can give you a lot of headaches. You could help yourself with a micro-tape recorder to record your notes. It would be easier than to write and you would put them down on paper later, to share your notes with your family. If you bring a camera with you to keep the beautiful images alive along the time then make sure you know how to handle it or you might fail to record them not only on that camera but also in your eyes. You will be so concerned to make that terrible thing function that you would pass from one place to another only with your eyes down.

If you make sure to remember to do all these, then the rest would be just to enjoy yourself.

European River Travel - the Basics Explained

Have you been thinking about traveling in Europe? Don't' forget to include river travel in the various options that you should look at. Not doing so would be a shame, as you would be missing out on one of the most pleasant and surprising ways to discover the continent.River travel is probably one of the most comfortable and stylish ways to travel, and going on a river cruise in Europe will be the experience of a lifetime for you, whether you go alone, with one or more friends, with your significant other, or decide go with members of your family.

On a river trip you have access to inland areas of countries that big ships just can't get to, and you get to sail along serene waterways, rather than to drive along congested highways. Your comfortable hotel travels with you and you usually moor very centrally in most towns that you will visit. It is true that ships for European river travel are smaller then ocean liners, but most are very comfortable and quite roomy, and there are several that have a movie rooms and fully equipped restaurants, as well as a dancing area.

Plus, of course, viewing areas to look at the lovely landscape around you. Before looking at the boating companies that you may want to book your trip with, it would make sense to decide on the length of your voyage, as well as on the location that interests you and on the amount of amenities that you would expect to come with your package. As for the length, you can find anything from three day cruised to break up a longer holiday to leisurely four week trips down major rivers such as the Danube.

One or two weeks are pretty standard lengths. As for the location, trips tend to concentrate on the bigger rivers such as the Rhine, the Danube and the Seine, but there are also lesser-known alternatives, such as the tributaries of the Elbe in Germany, the Po in the north of Italy, or the rivers of Poland and European Russia.Another crucial thing to consider is the season of the trip. The south of France or the flower-growing areas of Holland are great for a late spring or summer trip, for instance.

Trips in Germany are great in the winter months, especially if you like a traditional Christmas atmosphere and homely cooking and baking.Concerning the level of comfort, you will find that there are a great number of alternatives, from Spartan drive-your-own houseboat hires to luxury cruse ships that have a lot in common with high-end hotels, but that retain an individual character.

Interview With Michael Durack, Author of Illegal From Holland

Today we are talking with Michael Durack, author of The Illegal from Holland, published by Infinity Publishing and available on Amazon and other online outlets.PBR: Michael, thank you for taking your time to talk with us today.Thank you for providing the opportunity.PBR: First let me say how "sorry" I am for you and your wife to have had such an ordeal. As they say, "Bad things often happen to good people," so are you bitter about your experience with ICE and the Immigration system?I don't know if bitter is the right word, but I'm definitely much more cynical about the effectiveness and moral justification of the way people in the system are treated.

PBR: When did the concept of writing your book come about? Were you compiling a diary during the approximate year and a half?I probably made a few notes while I was traveling in Europe with Yolande, but I didn't keep a diary. I think I just felt that our experience with the U.S. government's policies was so bizarre and being treated like criminals was so unjust that I had to write about it.PBR: At any time when Yolande was in custody, did you fear for her safety? Not really. She is so good at adapting to almost any situation and taking any obstacle in stride that she never seemed to feel there was any danger and she transferred that attitude to me.

I was mostly concerned with how long she would have to stay there and not being able to get any information regarding when she would be freed.PBR: I know from having read your book your personal views on "the system," but if you knew then what you know now, what might you have done differently?Well, I certainly wouldn't have been so honest at the checkpoint in New Mexico. I was still na

Travelling To Orchha In India

Not so long ago I spend a few days in one of my new favourite places in India, during a month long India trip!I have been travelling to India many times now and have always loved getting away from the big, busy cities for some respite in a more rural idyll. The cities in India are vibrant and fascinating, but the hassle levels and general stress of city life do wear you down after a while. So after Delhi, Agra and Jaipur it was great to arrive in Orchha and get some real down time during my India travel adventure.

Orchha's name actually translates to 'hidden place' which suits it well. Geographically and in Indian terms it is not far from Agra to Orchha, but it feels worlds away. The train took me from Agra to Jansi station. It was then a short drive on to Orchha. The traffic decreased as we left the train station behind and suddenly there was peace all around with just the occasional car and bullock cart on the road.My driver took me along roughly sealed roads and through town, past some simple but well maintained homes, in lovely Indian shades of aqua blue and parrot green.

There were cows, goats and children wandering by, the occasional tractor, cyclist and sadhu. Life had definitely slowed down to a more languid and relaxed pace. Interesting and ancient ruins were strewn about the region and cropped up at the roadside at intervals.I checked into my lovely hotel. It had the feel and style of a rambling old palace with courtyards, manicured gardens and very spacious rooms with traditional hand painted detail trimming the ceilings and around the light fittings. It had bags of character and personality and the staff were obviously happy and well looked after.

I was only pestered by the 'massage man' who even came to the door of my room to offer his services for the 3rdtime! This was the extent of the hassle in Orchha as a lone female traveller other than the young man who wanted me to join him in his shop after dark! I declined, but bought some of his Khajuraho 'dirty' playing cards which inflamed his interest further before I departed. It was a joy to just to wander freely through quiet streets from the grounds of the hotel down to the banks of the river Betwa past vultures nesting in the ruined chhatris - a rare peaceful travel experience in India!

When I got to the riverside there was lots of activity; laundry drying on the boulders, a sadhu perched atop the highest boulder, people bathing and a narrow stone bridge across the river carrying a few vehicles, water buffalo and motorcyclists. It was a little tricky trying to get safely to the other side with an overloaded bus coming at you as there is no barrier between you and the water. The view back across the water in the late afternoon light was worth it - a real highlight of my India trip.

Orchha can get busy at times with Hindu pilgrims coming to worship at the temples mixed in with a few tourists on route from the Khajuraho temples or Varanasi. There is a relatively lively main square in the centre of town next to the brightly painted Ram Raja temple which used to be a palace. This is still a working temple, but there are nearby abandoned structures that you can enter for a small fee and climb up to get a great view across town and the surrounding landscape. So, after a very enjoyable couple of days in Orchha I was suitably refreshed and ready to hit the busy streets and ghats of Varanasi as I continued on my India travel plan.

The Illegal From Holland, by Michael Durack - Book Review

Honesty may be the best policy for going through life, but certainly not the easiest way to pass a US Border Patrol checkpoint when you are with your wife who happens to be in this country on an expired visa from Holland. So began the spiraling complexity of circumstances stemming from the arrest, detention and deportation of Michael Durack's wife as he recounts the events of the true story of what happened to them in his book, "The Illegal from Holland."Written in a first-person narrative format, Durack tells of the foibles of the immigration agents as they maneuver detainees from place to place; from hearings to detention centers, from visitor meetings to feedings, and eventually to airports and deportation.

Yes, hurry up and wait. Weeks and months are of little concern as taxpayers pick up the bill for this slow moving processing of non-violent individuals, moving them back to their country of origin, mostly to Mexico and South American countries. When Michael Durack's wife falls into this system, he is forced to cope with the circumstances necessary to achieve her freedom from detention, and allow for the correct paperwork for her legal presence within the USA. This process takes him on a trip of quite a varied journey, throughout Holland and Europe, and over a year and a half before settling back to California as a married couple.

"The Illegal from Holland" is a fast read, a bit light with regards to impact as the situations discussed are rather mundane and non-eventful. After all, being caught for simply having over-extended your entry visa seems to be thought by Durack as having the same severity as driving with an expired license, filing a late tax return, or amassing some parking tickets. Nothing worthy of being instantly detained, or for a better use of terms, jailed.Michael has written his true story admittedly as his opinion, stating in the forward that to some readers the fact his wife was in violation of the law speaks adequately to the wrath of events that became her ordeal.

Justice, although harsh, is known to those prior to making the decision to remain in this country beyond stated times and consequences should come as no surprise if caught. His logical appeal is to the reading audience: it's my wife, a nice girl, and not a criminal - so to speak. I'd wonder what the Dutch would do if the tables were turned, and Michael was illegally in Holland traveling with his wife. Would they say, "Fine, have a nice day Mr. Durack and please leave soon?" Perhaps that could be a good concept for a sequel.

Singapore Travel Guide - What to Do in Singapore

This is a report on what living in Singapore is like. It can also serve as a travel report for your next visit to Singapore. Singapore is a city in South East Asia and it is situated just underneath Malaysia and to the West of Indonesia. It is a very small island and presently has about 5millioninhabitants. It is very tropical and hot with temperatures always above 30C. It usually only rains about once a day for about half an hour but there are also periods (like now) when there is hardly and periods when there is more.

The majority of the population are Chinese descendants that came to Singapore in the early 1800s to work in the newly established port. Most of them speak mandarin although everyone in Singapore is taught in English with mandarin and Malay also being taught. The other 3 population groups are the Malays, the Indians and the Caucasians. All these groups have a very different culture and practice a different religion but Singapore prides itself on its diversity and everyone here seems to get on well.

Singapore is a very clean and safe place to live which is one of the reasons I like being here. All the streets are really clean and look beautiful and in many places they are surrounded by lush tree and plants. So what can you do here as a tourist?Explore the different cultures Singapore is the perfect place to go if you want to have a taste of Asia, but still like the luxury of a very clean city, people that speak English and fantastic shopping. Although it is a very modern city there are still places in Singapore where you can still experience the Asian culture.

Places to visit
Arab street: this is the traditional neighborhood of the Malay people. You can find the mosque here and some wonderful quaint streets with little shops. Little India: As soon as you step foot in this part of town, most of the people on the streets are Indian as are the restaurants and shops and you really get a sense of being in India. Chinatown: lovely antique shops, temples and many beautiful old shophouses makes this a fun place to explore. Raffles Hotel: this place served as a place of tranquility for the Europeans in colonial times.

Today it is a lovely place to explore the museum, browse through some shops, have a drink at the long bar or sit on the outside terrace.Enjoy the nightlifeAlthough Singapore seems to have a reputation of being 'boring" the city is working hard to get rid of this image. The formula 1 race is now held here once a year and 2 casinos are being built. There are already many nice cafes and restaurants here. I just love to go outside in the evening with minimal clothes on when the temperature is so lovely and sit at one of the many terraces outside.

Places I like:
Clarke quay: if you think that Singapore is not a happening place then visit Clarke quay. A very bustling part of town with many trendy restaurants, bars and nightclubs. One place I like there is the 1NiteStand comedy bar where they have excellent stand-up comedy and life bands. Although I now prefer Clarke Quay this is still a fun and happening place where many expats and tourists hang out. Dampsey Hill: this used to be where the former British army barracks were, but it has now been turned into a trendy area with upmarket restaurants and specialty shops.

Holland village: a fun and casual place to meet up for drinks, coffee or visit one of the many restaurants. Raffles Hotel long bar: traditionally THE place to go for a Singapore sling. Hawker centers: if you want to eat the Singaporean way try one of the many hawker center where you can eat very cheaply.Enjoy beautiful nature walksFew cities are as green and luscious as Singapore. There are many places to go for a stroll and discover new trees and plants. Here are some of my favourites:
Singapore botanical gardens: beautiful big park with wonderful gardens Bukit Timah nature reserve: for those that want to be in the jungle and have a more challenging walk McRitchie nature reserve: lots of lovely and peaceful walks here.

From here you can also do theTree Top Walkwhich gives you a different perspective on the Singapore's trees. The Singapore zoo is a beautiful nature walk all by itself. The zoo grounds are wonderfully lush and of course it's fun to encounter some amazing animals along the way.Lots of activities for the kidsSingapore has a lot of interesting activities for children
Forest adventure: a fun and challenging course across trees and over water. Children love this! Sentosa Island: too many activities here.

Some examples are: The luge, butterfly garden, laser show, trapeze, underwater world, dolphins, images of Singapore museum, beach, airlifts, dinosaur walk, etc. If you are traveling with kids then this would be the best place to stay. Zoo and Night Safari: I believe that Singapore's zoo is one of the best (if not the best) zoo in the world. Both zoo and night safari are fantastic so that will be a tough choice to make (or you can just do both) Wet and Wild and Jurong Swimming complex: fun places for swimming, complete with lazy rivers and slides Jacob Ballas children's garden in the botanical gardens: a lovely free playground for the kids with water, cubby houses, slides etc (and shade for the parents to sit and chat).

The botanical gardens also have a lot of ducks and fish that children love to feed. East Coast Park: this is a park next to the sea, although you should not expect to do a lot of swimming here. People come here for walking, rollerblading, cycling but there are also lots of activities like a fair, watersports, sailing, taiqi, fishing etc.Go Shopping!Singapore is famous for its shopping which is the people's favorite pass time. There are so many malls here that I don't think I will ever be able to visit them all.

Check these ones out:
General shopping: The most famous shopping street in Singapore is Orchard Road. Ngee Ann City is the home of Takashimaya, a big Japanese superstore. You will find many of the major brands here, and also the great book store Kinokuniya. You can walk from Ngee Ann City to Wisma Atria where there is a great variety of shops. Paragon is opposite Ngee Ann city and has a good variety of shops also. Another favorite is Singapore's newest mall Vivo City which is close to Sentosa.

Sports: for sport shoes and lots of other sports articles go to Queensway shopping centre. But my personal favorite, as many of my local sport friends will know, is theThe Velocity Sports Mall at Novena square for some great deals on Adidas clothes. Computers and electronics: Lots of variety of electronics and computers at Sim Lim Square. Another good one (less messy) is Funan DigitaLife mall. A good place for bargaining for electronics on Orchard Road is Lucky Plaza. Singaporean: for Chinese products head to the Yue Hwa store.

Arab street is good for baskets, textiles, mats and dry goods. In the Tekka Centre you can buy gold, (Muslim) food and clothes. Children: The Forum shopping mall tends to be focused on children but it is very expensive.Close to SingaporeOne of the great things of living in Singapore is that it is so close to a lot of other interesting places and you can take advantage of that as a visitor too. Malaysia, Indonesia (Bali), Thailand and other interesting countries are only a few hours away. So if you would like to visit Singapore but still would like some relaxing days on a nice beach then you can combine it with a tropical beach in one of those countries.

The closest to Singapore is Bintan Island which is a small Island in Indonesia. It's very easy to get there from Singapore with a 40 min trip by ferry.Of course I've only scratched the surface on all the things you can do here. To know more you will need to buy a good guide book like Malaysia and Singapore (Eyewitness Travel Guides) To view this report with links or to see other travel reports be sure to visit my website.

Traveling By Train For Your Vacations

A different and charming way of seeing the countryside, during vacations, that almost seems a part of an era long past is by traveling by train. During the early years of the century a journey by train travel was the usual way of seeing the countryside, but in today's jet age very few people travel by train like they did before. It is only those, still lucky enough to ride a train, who can appreciate the beauty of the landscape.Where else could you have the luxury of driving 60 miles per hour in a luxury coach car with comfortable seats, cold drink in hand and a pillow to rest your head, and people to pamper you silly?

You could watch cows in the fields as travel, while having drinks served to your taste. Most major cities in the US are provided train service by Amtrak. The Amtrak passenger travels in the utmost comfort. You can add more cities and regions to your list of "been there, seen that", places like Salt Lake City, Chicago, Seattle, Boston, Sacramento, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Nashville, San Francisco, Kansas City, Denver, St. Louis, New Orleans, and Dallas. European locations are invariably better connected by the railway system.

Most people in Europe travel by buying a Euro rail pass, or Brit rail while traveling through UK. By buying a Euro rail pass you are guaranteed unlimited train travel throughout Europe. College kids having a Euro rail pass pack a backpack with few basics, and hit the track.
